In addition to the tiles, you will need the following
| A Board and a tape measure | |
| Spirit level | |
| Tile cutter or hacksaw | |
| Mortar or Adhesive | |
| Grouting paste | |
| Sealing strip | |
| Silicon plaster for waterproofing | |
| Steel trowel | |
| Rubber trowel | |
| Bucket and protective gloves | |
| Porosol or Imprasol | |
| Cleaning equipment (eg, sponge and wiping cloth) |
1. First attach the guiding board to the wall with its upper edge on the same level as the joint at the
top of the lowest row of tiles. Check whether the walls in the room are straight and of the same
height so the tiling will be straight. |
2. Spread adhesive or ready-mixed mortar onto the wall with a steel trowel,
pressing fmnly, Apply adhesive to the horizontal area you are able to tile in ten minutes,
"Comb" the mortar with the toothed edge of the trowel
|
3. Fix one horizontal row of tiles at a time. Press the first row of tiles into
place on top of the straight-edged board and check that the joint spaces are correct.
Then place the sealing strip along the upper joint of the first horizontal row of tiles.
Press the next horizontal row of tiles onto the adhesive (mortar) and wait for them to adhere to the wall.
|
4. When the tiling is sufficiently set so the tiles do not begin to slip,
you can fix the sealing strip for the next layer and continue tiling. Keep the sealing strip
clean of lumps of mortar so all the joints will be of the same width. Also wipe off any
mortar from the surface of the Tulikivi tiles immediately.
|
5. Check that the joints are vertical with a spirit level. Leave the tiles to dry for 24 hours before grouting.
|
6. Stir the grouting paste and leave it for approx. 15 minutes, giving it another stir before starting to work.
|
7. Apply grouting paste with a rubber trowel so that the joints are filled
thoroughly. Use the same trowel to remove excess grouting paste from the face of the tiles
immediately, before it can dry and stick to the tiles.
|
8. When lie grouting has had 15-30 minutes to dry, wash the tiling with a damp sponge and wipe it with a dry cloth.
|
9. All the corner joints must be water-proofed in rooms with plumbing. Squeeze silicon paste into the joints.
|
10. Press the silicon joints firmly with your fmger. Leave the tiling to set overnight before applying Porosol base treatment.
|
11. Use Porosol or Imprasol for the base treatment of the tile finish.
Give the dried tiling one more wipe with a clean, almost dry cloth. Then apply base treatment
in thin layers with a mop, sponge or wash cloth. Wash off the excess immediately.
|
Leave the surface to dry for approx. 1 hour and repeat, preferably more than once. Porosol base treatment prevents dirt from becoming ingrained in the soapstone and makes the tiles easy to keep clean. The treatment should be repeated when necessary. |
