| TULIKIVI TILES Tulikivi tiles are manufactured from a soapstone mine from a quarry situated on the Pielinen shore of Nunnanlahti bay in the municipality of Juuka, Finland. The stone has been used in the industry since the 1890's. Today, it is used to make the world-famous Tulikivi Fireplaces, tiles, and architectural stone. COMPOSITION Soapstone consists mainly of talc and magnesite. The talc content makes the soapstone easy to work with and the magnesite makes it tough - even tougher than concrete. WORKING WITH TULIKIVI TILES Enhance the atmosphere of public rooms or private spaces by combining Tulikivi tile with other building materials. Tulikivi tiles are particularly well-suited for use with wood and other natural materials and work well as wall and floor surfacing. For example, place tiles in hallways and rooms with open fireplaces. A Tulikivi tile floor is virtually noiseless and maintenance free. The tiles are also ideal for bathrooms, washrooms etc., because they do not absorb water and are not slippery when wet. By installing electrical heating elements under the paved floor, a heated floor is obtained which acts as a storage heater. Tulikivi tiles can be installed like mosaic and ceramic tiles. On a flat base of concrete or timber, or over existing tiles, lay with tile plaster or tile grout. Tiles are fitted using a 2-3 mm gap, and use of normal gap grout is recommended. TILING WITH TULIKIVI One material, endless possibilities. Tulikivi has not only the largest range of fireplaces but also the most extensive range of soapstone on the market. The different grains and surface treatments offer a wide variety of possibilities for individual fireplace designs. Discover the exact differences between the various stones at the Tulikivi distributor in your area. Tulikivi Green and Tulikivi Black are used only in decorative parts of the Tulikivi fireplaces.
